My Top 5 Winter Liquid Lipsticks

Winter has always been my favorite time of the year. I love the feel of the season, the coziness of it, but mostly – being a makeup junkie myself – I love the looks that you’re capable of pulling off during winter. Dark lips and cheeks, fair skin, sultry eyes, the possibilities are endless. Now I’ve always been a mauve-y lips kind of gal, and this winter is no exception to my love of that shade. So, for my first blog post, I want to share my top 5 liquid lipsticks that I’ve been wearing LOADS this season!

  1. LA Splash Smitten Lip Tint Mousse – Lovegood

This is your classic mauve lip colour. The lipstick itself is long-lasting, I never feel the need to reapply it to my lips. Like most liquid lipsticks, it can be drying if you do not apply a lip balm underneath. One thing that I am not a fan of when it comes to all LA Splash lipsticks is the scent. It almost smells like insect repellent when you first apply it, but it eventually subsides. I think this shade compliments a variety of skin tones, and I would definitely recommend it to those who are familiar with wearing liquid lipsticks since it can be a little uncomfortable.

2.  Limecrime Velvetines – Faded

All shade aside, Limecrime makes some pretty amazing liquid lipsticks. I would say the Velvetines are my favourite formula: very long lasting, don’t flake or chip off, don’t transfer even when you eat or drink, are extremely pigmented, and they come in a bunch of fun yet wearable colours. They also smell like vanilla cupcakes, which is always a plus in my book! This shade in particular is a fave. My friend and fellow blogger Nouf wore it to class one day, and I loved it on her and bought one for myself (Thanks Nouf :P).

3. Dose of Colors Matte Lipsticks – Berry Me

Whenever I wear this shade I always get a ton of  compliments. Dose of Colours never fails to impress me, with every new shade released being better than the last. The Berry Me duo is gorgeous, but the original (in my opinion) is much better and truer to a berry shade than the second. This was actually the first liquid lipstick I ever purchased, and the reason my whole obsession began. The formula can get very drying throughout the day, and the lipstick around the center of the lips could get very flaky so reapplication would be necessary. Still I would DEFINITELY recommend these lipsticks to anyone and everyone.

4. Dose of Colors Matte Lipsticks – Brick

I am not a huge fan of red lips, but this shade is an exception. Brick was initially released as one of the shades in the Limited Edition Terra Collection from Dose, but due to high demand, they brought it back to their permanent line (You can tell why). It is a beautiful dark reddish brown, and for the first couple weeks after I purchased it, I literally wore nothing else. Its a very appropriate shade for winter, and in my opinion is a very universal colour.

5. Coloured Raine Matte Lip Paints – Mars

The newest member to my liquid lipstick family! I recently discovered Coloured Raine, but their products have quickly made their way to the top. This shade in particular though is beautiful. It’s a pinkish brown colour, but leans more towards pink. It’s a very comfortable formula and if you’re new to the world of liquid lipsticks, this would be the best option. It does have a very strong chemical-y scent, but it disappears when the lipstick sets.

Worth mentioning: liquid lipsticks could be quite a hassle if your lips aren’t prepped for them, and I love using these products to prepare my lips to get the best out of my lipsticks.

First, I love moisturising my lips using Lucas’ Papaw Ointment. It’s a very thick gel like substance that seriously works miracles. Chapped and dry lips? This product will fix that up in no time. I especially love putting some on my lips right before I go to bed. Next, I love lining my lips with the Make Up For Ever Colorless Anti-Feathering Lip Pencil. This takes care of those annoying lipstick bleeds. It also helps the lipstick last longer. You could use a lip pencil that matches with your lipstick, but the colourless one works for everything so its my favourite. Finally, I go over my lips with a little of my Sigma Lose The Halo Lip Concealer. This ensures that I get the greatest pigmentation from all my lipsticks. I also use it to clean up around my lips. Now these steps are not only done before liquid lipstick application, this is my general lip care routine before applying any lipstick, but I do find that it works best with liquid lipsticks.
